Dimercaprol

EP and USP Quality

Dimercaprol
CAS Number 59-52-9
CAS Name 2,3-Dimercapto-1-propanol

2,3-Dimercapto-1-propanol stands out for its ability to form extremely stable chelate complexes, which are only very slightly toxic for the human organism.

This aliphatic dithiol has a slightly acidic character and forms salts with alkali metals.

The main applications are the treatment of arsenic, mercury and gold poisoning. Application is also possible in cases of bismuth, antimony, copper, cobalt and manganese poisoning.

The complex-forming properties of the product are also applied in the analytical chemistry, e.g. in complexometry.

As a reactive and highly polar SH-compound, the product can also be used as a starting material for numerous chemical syntheses and as an additive, catalyst and accelerator in many areas of plastics and polymer technology.
